One of the dimorphic canaries and difference in the sexes are quite obvious.



Cocks have a pitch black head with a white collar whereas the hen is brown (cock left)                       
The cock is also more red brown on the back and wings (cock left)

Young cock's quickly start showing their trademark colours, whereas young hens show a lot of streaking on the chest (cock left)
